During the Covid-19 restriction period, the Junior Club has suspended activities as we are unable to follow our normal indoor winter programme. Our members remain in touch with us, and we will resume activities when it is practicable and safe to do so
Horndean Camera Club has an established Junior Camera Club for young photographers in the South Hants area. The group is intended for boys and girls from 10 years old upwards, and introduces members to all the basic principles of photography together with lots of practical experience.
The Chairman of Horndean Junior Camera Club, Geoff Lambert, said “our main club’s programme is not really suited to young people, so we looked for ways to start a Junior sub-section of the club which can be focussed solely on their needs and start them on their way to a fascinating, creative and rewarding hobby.
Thanks to a grant from East Hants District Council specifically for this purpose, we equipped and can run such a club. Members can work with their own cameras, but we also have a quantity of suitable cameras and a printer that can produce instant photo prints during the sessions. Other equipment is available from the main club. Apart from the expertise of our own photographers we also have the benefit of experienced teachers of photography to help plan and run the junior group.
We can have up to 10 members and usually meet on the first Saturday morning of each month (with bank holiday variations). We have indoor theory sessions and demonstrations, and indoor and outdoor photo shoots in the surrounding area. We also spend time working with the software used for post processing pictures. Members can work on projects and can carry prints and picture files home, and bring in photos taken at home. The youngsters’ work is shown at the main club meetings from time to time. We hope also to have occasional wider ranging field trips, with parental support. To my knowledge, there is no other club of this type in the South Hants area”.
Two of our club members, Alice and Torin, were recently awarded first prizes in their respective age groups in a Young Photographers’ competition organised by the Havant Rotary Club, as part of a national Rotary competition. Torin’s entry then went on to win the District heat of the competition.
