Zoom meeting without speaker or microphone

As a consequence of the Coronvirus, the start of the 2020/21 Horndean Camera Club season will require the club to conduct meetings via Zoom.

Zoom is a video conference application that can be used through a computer or mobile app, and allows users to connect online for video conference meetings, webinars and live chat.

The app is available to download for free and Zoom users can chose to sign up to the free service.

You DON’T need a webcam or microphone to dial into a Zoom meeting – it just means that you are unable to be seen or heard. But the important part is that you will be aware of the activities at the club.

  1. How do I download Zoom
As explained earlier, Zoom is free and can be downloaded from https://zoom.us/download.

Choose the “Zoom Client for Meetings” option and download.

Zoom will then begin downloading. You should then click on the .exe file to begin the installation process.
  2. Do I need a Zoom Account to join a meeting?
If you are looking to just join meetings – then no you don’t need a Zoom account.

If however, you plan to hold your own meetings etc, then an account is required.
  3. So what happens now?
You will receive an email from the club Secretary providing the meeting joining details.

The email will contain: A link Meeting ID Passcode, Simply click on the link and when prompted enter the Meeting ID number and passcode.

You will then have joined the meeting and will be able to view and hear the proceedings. Bearing in mind that without the webcam or microphone you cannot be seen or heard.
